We would like to encourage you to help us help our community. ECSU AITP is proud and committed to serving the local Windham community. But without support from you the community member, making a difference would not be possible. This year for significant donations to our club, we will be creating and distributing (for further fundraising) new AITP St. Louis Competition T-shirts with the logos from your company or organization of choice. A detailed look at what these shirts will look like is below.

ECSU AITP Students Win Big in St. Louis!

Eastern Connecticut State University’s AITP Student Chapter Team Wins the National Championship of the Web Application Project Team Competition

At the 15th Annual Association of Information Technology Professional (AITP) National Collegiate Conference in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday, March 27, 2010, Eastern Connecticut State University’s Student AITP Chapter Database Driven - Web Application Project Team won first place in the national championship of the Web Team Project Contest sponsored by the Institute of Certified Computer Professionals (ICCP).  The Association of Information Technology Professionals is the largest association of information systems and technology management professionals in North America.  There are 289 college and university student chapters of AITP, with typically around 100 universities and colleges of all sizes from across the U.S and Canada take part in the Annual National Collegiate Conference.  The Web Application Project Contest is a year long project contest with the student teams submitting multiple project phase deliverable documents and designs to the AITP national judging panel.  Each university or college is allowed to have multiple student teams competing in the competition with only the top ten scoring teams nationwide being selected to present at the national conference.  The rules of the contest require that the student team’s design and build a database driven website for a non-profit organization (501.3c).

Eastern Connecticut State University’s Student AITP Chapter designed, built and enhanced a dynamic database driven website for Covenant Soup Kitchen of Willimantic, Connecticut for the national competition.  The Student AITP Chapter first became involved with the Covenant Soup Kitchen, when they established a pie baking charity fundraising event for Covenant Soup Kitchen and other local Willimantic charities in February, 2007.  The Student AITP Chapter has maintained an ongoing relationship with Covenant Soup Kitchen supporting their various free meals, food pantry and other relief service mission programs. Students in the AITP Chapter consist of Business Information Systems majors and minors with related majors and minors in various concentrations in Business Administration, Computer Science, and other related academic programs.

The Eastern student AITP designed, built and maintained website, allows the Covenant Soup Kitchen director, Paul Doyle and other Covenant staff members and volunteers to dynamically update information displayed on the website to the public through an  administrator‘s database driven interface.   Features of the website that may be dynamically updated through utilizing the student designed database are – photo galleries, upcoming events, past news items, printable newsletters, volunteer activities, requests for food items in short supply in the pantry, affiliate non-profit organization contact information, as well as multiple methods to make donations.  Over the past couple of years AITP student members in the Organizational Website and Database Management course of the Business Information Systems Program have also designed class team projects to address Covenant Soup Kitchen’s needs for food and supply inventory management, volunteer coordination, coordination of community service hours, and tracking of services provided to members of the local community.   The systems designed for the course projects provide information to be incorporated into the website designed by the AITP Chapter members.  AITP members in other teams in the Organizational Website and Database Management course have worked with and designed systems for other Eastern Connecticut non-profit organizations as well.

Members of the AITP National Competition team are: Ethan Harris, Team Captain from Ledyard, CT; Lynn Bartmess, Fairfield, CT; Zach Flight, Griswold, CT; Gloria Rivera, Willimantic, CT; Kacy T. Shafiee, Ridgefield, CT; Matthew Thibeault, Stafford Springs, CT; Roberto Vasquez, New York City; Stephen Welch, Hauppauge, NY and their faculty advisor is Dr. Alex Citurs of the Business Information Systems (BIS) program of the Department of Business Administration.  .

Our Mission

AITP's mission is to give students in the Business Information Systems, Business Administration and Computer Science student programs and courses an opportunity to gather information regarding developments not only in the information systems and technology fields but also in their future careers and facilitate professional networking amongst other students and professionals alike. Guest speakers provide opportunities to learn about new systems, technologies, up and coming business practices and innovations alike.

As a club, we visit local off campus businesses to not only take an in depth look into the business world, but also see some of the things that we as students might like to do in the future with our degrees.

Our Meeting dates occur bi-weekly, every other Wednesday from 3pm - 4pm during university hour.

Feel free to look around at our website links for more information. If you have any questions feel free to contact us at aitp@my.easternct.edu or one of our e-board members or our adviser available to you in our contact page.
